David LaVoy was born 7 July 1821 at the Maumee River, probably in Ohio, near the Ohio-Michigan Border. He was baptized at Assumption Church, Windsor, Canada, 20 January 1822. He was raised in Monroe County, MI, in Erie Towsnship. He and his wife, Monique (nee Duval?) had two known children: Victoria, born in October, 1850, according to the 1850 Census, and Ely LaVoy, born before his father's death on 12 Septemer 1852, at the age of 31.
David LaVoy died possessed of 120 acres of land according to the Monroe County Probate File 1049. The land was described as follows: NW 1/4 of SE 1/4 of Section 28 in T8S R8E containing 40 acres; SW 1/4 of NW 1/4 of Section 28, T8S R8E, containing 40 acres; and W 1/2 of E 1/4 of Section 19 T8S R8E, containing 40 acres.
David's personal property was valued at $369.08 in Probate.
The fate of David's child, Victoria, is unknown, She may have died as a child. David's only known descendants are through his son Ely.
David's widow, Monique, remarried to Louis laPointe, who became guardian of her children. The 1860 Census entry for Louis LaPointe needs to be searched to determine whether Victoria survived to 1860 or beyond..
Similarly a more thorough review of the Probate record for her father's estate may indicate whether she died before her majority.
Monique and her second husband, Louis LaPointe resided in Erie Township, MI.

VI-2: Ely LaVoy was under the age of two at the time of his father's death. His presence is not recorded in the 1850 Census, only Victoria.
Ely remained in Erie where he married Mary LaPointe on 21 January 1874 in St. Joseph's Church, Erie, MI.
The 1880 Census indicates the couple had two children by this date: Austin (mistake for Ernestine), age 5 (b. 1874-75) and Wallace, age 3 (b. 1876-77).
Ely died at the age of 35 on 22 March 1886, according to Monroe County Probate File 3569.

Ely LaVoy's estate was valued at $3,000. He was apparently aware that death was imminent since he signed and dated his Will on 5 March 1886 17 days before his death, making his half-brother, Daniel LaPointe his administrator in the presence of his first cousins, Samuel Duval and Francis C. LaVoy, Erie Justice of the Peace.
Mary LaPointe LaVoy remarried to Samuel Leonard, founder of the Leonard Brothers Moving Company, still located on Fort Street in Detroit, as of this writing (1994).
