      Tenth Generation; http://www.familyorigins.com/users/d/a/h/Alfred-J-Dahlquist/FAMO2-0001/d78.html

      888. Francois BIBAUT @ was born on 10 Dec 1642 in N.-D.-de-Cognes, LaRochelle, France. He died in 1708 in St-Francois-du-Lac, Yamaska, P.Quebec. He was buried on 24 Sep 1708 in St-Francois-du-Lac, Yamaska, P.Quebec. 1. Engage LaRochelle 10 Apr 1656, laborer, notary Savin.

      2. In: Nos Ancetres au XVII e Siecle by Rev Father Archange Godbout, Ofm (Translated)

Signed "f bibaud" and "bibau" born between 1632 to 1638. Census of 1667 gives him 35 years and Census of 1681 as 43 years. In 1665 he calls himself "son of honorable man Jacques Bibault and of Jeanne Savignoux, of Verteuil province of Angoumois (notary Latouoche 29 Oct 1665) and in 1682 born in parish of Coignes, city of LaRochelle son of deceased Jacques, tavern keeper living at la Fond and of deceased Jeanne Savineau (notary Ameau 9 Oct 1682).

April 10 1656 in front of notary Savin at LaRochelle Francois Bibault, a farmer, living at la Fond near LaRochelle hired out to Arnaud Pere' for Canada. The first mention of our settler in our Archives is in an action in damages against him by Quentin Moral 15 Sep 1660 (arch. Quebec Prevote of Three Rivers). In 1662 he lives at Cap de la Madeleine (notary Laurent, 15 May and 27 Jun 1662 & notary Herlin 17 Mar 1661). In the intention of founding a family in Canada - he passes a marriage contract 29 Oct 1665 at Cap de la Madeleine (notary Latouche) with Jeanne de Merinne, daughter of Jean and of Marie de la Haye of St-Sulpice in Paris but the wedding doesn't take place. Up to 1666 Bibeau had lived on St-Marc Hill but April 6th of this year gets a concession by father Firmin Jesuit 2 habitations of 2 acres by forty, one hill at Batiscan between Francois Lary dit Gargot at S.W. and Nicolas Rivard at N.E. the other at cote St-Eloi between Francois Duclos at S.W. and Jean Trotier N.E. (notary Latouche). The following 25 Dec he yielded his land at St-Marc also 2 acres by 40 in favor of Rene Blanchet. The neighbors were Pierre Menard S.W. and Benjamin Anseau S.E. (notary Latouche). Although an owner of land Francois Bibeau was hiring out his services as servant to Elie Bourbeau in 1667 (Census in Sulte's).

15 January 1669 (notary Vachon) at the occasion of a journey West he makes a will in favor of Jeanne Chalifour with whom upon his return he passed a marriage contract (notary Vachon 29 Oct 1669). Back to West our traveller signs with Nicolas Perrot and Louis Jolliet, 14 Jun 1671 the taking possession of Sault Ste. Marie. Maybe it is at this occasion that he formed at the Outaouais a society with the discoverer (notary Becquet 4 Oct 1675). Two months later 17 Aug 1671 he weds at Quebec Jeanne Chalifour but to leave soon again for the great lakes. We know he was at Montreal in 1673 back from West (notary Becquet) and again in 1675 (Becquet).

Jeanne Chalifour woman Bibeau died around 1679 as Boivinet held election for a tutor for her little girl Marie Bibeau 10 April of that year. The inventory of the possessions of the deceased was made by notary Adhemar 20 Mar 1680.

      Bibeau Family Website:

Welcome to the Bibeau* Family Website. Nearly 30 years of research have gone into the compilation of the Bibeau family genealogy. There is still work to be done, however, with the thousands of Bibeau's who now exist, it couldn't wait to be completed before being published here, or it would never get from my desk to your eyes.

      * Over twenty-five spellings of the family name have been found. The most commonly used today are Bibeau (over 5,000), Bibeault, Bebeau and Bebo.

The first part of this work has been to compile information on only those people who carried on the Bibeau name in its various spellings. It is my belief that this part of the work is now over 80% complete. Another 10% are known, and there no doubt are still another 10% yet to be found. We have now started adding the allied lines as found.

About August of 1999 I found Lucette Bibeault, of the Province of Quebec, on the internet. Lucette had also been working on the entire Bibeau family for a number of years. We began exchanging information and the work presented here represents the combined efforts of Lucette and of myself.

Due to privacy concerns, dates and place names have only been published on this site for the first six generations. We will be glad to send more complete information to those who help to complete information including dates and place names on their own known relatives.

How to see if you are included at this time. Use the index to find a close relative who was not born with the name Bibeau (your wife or husband, mother or grandmother), believe me, it will be a lot easier. Note: the person you look for should be married to a Bibeau.

Please help to complete the genealogy of the Bibeau family. Allied lines (descendants of the female families) are welcome and appreciated.

All additions, corrections and requests should be emailed to:

Francois Bibeau married a 2nd time with Louise Esnard at Three Rivers 17 Nov 1682 (contract by Ameau 9 Oct 1682). He was then living at St. Francois du Lac where he had received a 1st concession at St-Jean Isle 1 Mar 1680 (notary Adhemar) and a 2nd one 30 Mar 1680 (notary Adhemar) and where he was to get a 3rd one 27 Feb 1684 (notary Adhemar). He had also lived at the Seignary of Linctot (Becancour) 1674-1681 as the census of 1681 places him (Sulte) with 6 acres of toiled lands. Later we meet him at Nicolet (reg. of Trois-Rivieres 7 Mar 1689) at Batiscan 1691-98 and finally again at St-Francois du Lac where it seems he ended his days about 1712. A decree of the sovereign Council 3 Jul 1713 said that Pierre Bibault would "be paid by preference on the possessions of his deceased father 300 Livres (pounds) dowry of his deceased mother and other amounts he will justify having paid for the funeral of his father and the furnishings during his last illness.
