Sieur Jean-Jacques DeGerlaise dit St. Amand was born about 1643 in St. Paul, Liege, Belgium. Jean-Jacques DeGerlaise died in Riviere-du-Loup, Quebec, Canada on 10 Decmber 1722. His occupation was that of a soldier and later a farmer. He was literate and could sign his name. On 12 September 1667, age 24, he married Jeanne Trudel, dughter of Jean Trudel and Marguerite Thomas, in L'Ange Gardien, near Quebec. Jeanne Trudel was born 22 July 1656 in Quebec City and died in Riviere-du-LoupQuebec, Canada, on 30 November 1734, age 78.
