- I-3 William Tombow, born in 184l in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. According to his mother's pension application (#28948) William served in the Civil War on the Union side, as a sergeant, in Co. E, 18 U.S. Regiment. He died of wounds received in battle on 10 October 1863 and is buried in Tennessee, according to oral tradition in the Family. His papers have not been forwarded from the National Archives at this writing. William's death is also mentioned in the above mentioned letter from his aunt and uncle, Lydia Tombow and Benjamin Groff, and which accompanies this History. He died unmarried and without children.
