Notes |
- I-7 Shetzer Tombow is said to be buried in the E. Greenville, Ohio, Cemetery and died at the age of 11 years on 10 August 1850. This must be an error since his father did not move to E. Greenville until about 1856 or 1857. Either this is Shetzer's birth date or a death date that should read 10 August 1860 not 10 August 1850. This record was transcribed from the tombstone which cannot now be located.
An 1860 Federal Census for Tuscarawas Township entry for this family, if found , should shed light on this issue. Shetzer Tombow is not found in the 1850 Lancaster Census under the John Tombow entry in Martic Township, reported earlier in this chapter.
I-8 Adam Grant Tombow, born in 1853 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, married Sarah Oberdorf/Obendorf on 19 October 1876 in Stark County, Ohio, according to County Marriage Records. (Adam's brother, Nathaniel Tombow, married Mary Ann Obendorf, daughter of Jacob and Mary Slogan Obendorf, of Stark County, Ohio. Obendorf and Oberdorf may be variant spellings of the same name.)
Sarah Oberdorf (spelling used in Shirley Hern's data) was born 23 March 1862 in Ohio, the daughter of Jacob Oberdorf and Mary Shaub.
The following entry was found in the 1880 Federal Census for Tuscarawas Township, Stark County, Ohio:
Tombow, Adam, age 27, laborer, born in Pennsylvania Tombow, Sarah, age 2l, wife, born in Ohio Tombow, Nelly, age 3, daughter, born in Ohio
Adam Grant Tombow died 2l June 1897 in DeKalb Co., IN. He is buried in E Greenville (Ohio) Cemetery. Sarah Oberdorf Tombow married a second time on 6 November 1898 in DeKalb, IN to Joseph Saylor, son of William Saylor and Mary J. Stiltz. There were no children of this union. Sarah Oberdorf Tombow Saylor died 30 April 1923 in DeKalb Co., IN. She is buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, between Butler and Auburn, IN.
