The 1900 Federal Census for Whiteside County IL, has an entry fro the John Fluck household in Hume Township (entry 410/415):

(Dec), age 5 months, son, born IL as were parents McClellan, age 33, brother, farmer, born IL, parents in PA Isabelle, age 30, sister-in-law, born IL, parents in SC. Beulah, age 1, niece, bron In IL as were parents.

The above entry indicates the presence of John's first wife, Marian and their second son, John Russel, born in December is five months old at the time of the Census. We also note the presence of John's older brother's family (McClellan Fluck) in his household, probably assisting with the farming of their recently deceased father's land . (Aaron Fluck, Sr. had died several months before on 6 October 1899)

We get another glimpse of John at about the turn of the century as well as of a simpler and gentler time from an undated newspaper clipping found in the Fluck Family Bible.:

      Hume Was In It

"Saturday was a red letter day for the North Hume Sunday School. About 10 o'clock a.m. they gathered from all directions, some on horse-back, others in road carts, and many in buggies and carriages, while the prize load cam in a lumber wagon arranged with long seat around the edge. They then started on their eight mile pilgrimage, their destination being Fluck's Grove, just east of Sterling.

"Although the weather was very warm and the ride was enjoyed by all, the roads being in excellent condition after the pleasant shower of the night before.

"They arrived at the grove a short time before noon and at once took up the orders of the day, which consisted in erecting swings and placing ice cold lemonade on tap. John Fluck had the last named department under his immediate supervision and he dealt it out as free as the air they breathed but much cooler. Yes it was pleasant to the taste as his young lady assistants were to the eye, if such a thing could be.

"Then came a picnic dinner which beggars description. We will only say that the menu of a state dinner given at the White House sinks into insignificance when compared with the dinner prepared by the good housewives of North Hume.

After the dinner the older people spent a couple of hours in social chat while the young people (rovers of the prairies) roamed the forest.

"At 3:30 o'clock they broke camp and started for their homes, not over the Jordan, but over the Rock, all agreeing that they had a very pleasant and profitable day and one that will long be remembered by the young folks."

After Marian Russell died in 1902, John Fluck married a second time to Amy Sensenbaugh on 26 October 1904. (Whiteside County Marriage Licenses). She was from "the south side of the big mountain between Smitsberg and Wolsville, MD, according to communciation dated march, 1989, from her son Ralph ("Pete") Fluck, of Rock Falls, IL.

The 1910 Federal Census for Whiteside County, IL, gives us another snapshot of John Fluck's household in Hume Township (entry 87/87):
