Notes |
- William Tambo, Jr., the fourth child of William Tambo, Sr., and Elizabeth Fitzsimmons, was born 24 February l906 in Olyphant, PA. He served in World War II in the European Theater of Operations. His mili- tary record is not available at this writing but could be obtained by descendants from the Veterans Administration in Washinton, D.C. He was apparently on German soil during the War as he brought back with him a German stein currently in the possession of his sister-in-law, Lucille Tambeau, wife of his brother Leo Thomas Tambeau.
He married three times: (l) Mary Romayne Williams; (2) Kathryn Haren; and (3) Martha A. Kray. He died l8 July l963 in Pontiac, MI., of heart disease. He is buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Lot 7, Section K, grave C, Pontiac, MI. He was 57 years old at the time of his death. He worked for General Motors, Truck and Coach Division, Pontiac, MI, on the assembly line and resided at 479 Midway, Pontiac, MI, at the time of his death.
(l) William Tambo (Jr.) married Mary Romayne Williams, the daughter of Sidney Williams and Agnes Loftus, on l September, l925, in Olyphant, PA, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Romayne Williams was born l0 May l9l0 in Scranton, PA. She was baptized at Holy Rosary Church, Scranton.
The application for the marriage license has errors, including Mary Romayne William's age which was l5, not l8 at the time of the marriage, according to their son, William Sidney Tambeau. Her father also was not deceased at the time of application. Her aunt, Mrs. Albert Ninehan, gave consent for Mary Romayne to marry, as she was a minor.
Mary Romayne's occupation at the time of marriage was listed as weaver. William Tambo's occupation was listed as carpenter. Her address at the time of her marriage was l87 Parker St., Scranton, Pa. William Tambo, Jr., was living at ll4 School St., the home of his parents. He indicates his age as 2l, but he was l9 at the time. Their son, Bill, speculated that this early marriage was to remove Mary Romayne from the domination of her father.
This marriage ended in divorce in the early l930's and Romayne Williams Tambeau moved to New York and lived for many years in Brooklyn as did her son, William Sidney Tambeau. She remarried to Thomas Hayes and died in Brooklyn, N.Y., 7 December l974. She is buried in Dunmore, PA., Cemetery, 400 Church St., Dunmore, PA., near Scranton.
William Tambo (Jr.) and Mary Romayne Williams had two children: William Sidney Tambeau and Clayton Tambeau who died as a child of a throat tumor 3-18-31 and is buried in the Williams Lots, in Dunmore (PA) Cemetery.
William Tambo (Jr.), son of William Tambo and Elizabeth Fitzsimmons, married a second time to Kathryn Haren in l934 in Scranton, PA. They resided at 7l5 N. Valley. Divorced. Kathryn ("Kitty") Haren moved to Endicott, NY, in l954. She resided at ll4 Cleveland, Endicott, until her death on Mother's Day, l980. She is buried in Endicott.
William Tambo (Jr.) and Kathryn Harren had four children: John, June and Joan (twins) and Nancy Tambeau.
Wiliam Tambo (Jr.), the fourth child of William Tambo and Elizabeth Fitzsimmons, married a third time to Anna Martha Krey 25 August l956 in Pontiac, MI, by a justice of the peace. Anna Martha was twenty years older than William. She was born on 6 September l886 in Berlin, Germany, the daughter of Adolf Krey and Mary Bingham. She came to the U.S. with her parents in the l890's according to documents held by a daughter of a former marriage, Georgia Cooke. William Tambo and Martha Krey Strohpagel Tambeau resided in her home at 479 Midway, Pontiac, MI, according to their marriage license. Martha died l3 September l976 and is buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Pontiac, MI, next to William Tambo (Jr.)
From William's third marriage there were no children.
