Notes |
- His entry in the 1920 Federal Census for Harney County, Oregon, Vol. 6, E.D. 71, Sheet 3, line 9, contained the follwing data: Robert LaVoy, single, age 67, white, able to read, write and speak English, working for self as a farm laborer, owning own home free and clear, father born in Alsace-Lorraine, mother tongue being French, and mother born in France, with mother tongue being French.
Robert's parents, Francois LaVoy III and Julia LaPointe, were born in Monroe County, MI, and were of French-Canadian descent. Robert was 75 years old according to an earlier Census in Michigan placing his birth in 1845. He was a twin of his brother Samuel LaVoy. He had been married to Sarah Lemery but he must have abandoned her as her Toledo, Ohio, City Directory entry for many years indicated that she was a widow, not divorced. According to his mother's obituary, Robert was in Roswell, NM, in 1903. He was in Harney County as early as 1912 as his voting record for that year has been found by the County clerk. He voted Democratic in 1912 and 1914. No further voting records are known at this writing.
