- Blissfield—Martha LaVoy, age 87, of Blissfield, formerly of Deerfield Petersburg area, passed away February 21, 2012 at her home under the loving care of her family and Great Lakes Hospice.
She was born February 18, 1925, in Detroit, MI., the daughter of Florence M. (Ewers) and Warren Watson. Martha graduated from Petersburg High School in 1943.
On November 4, 1944, Martha married Donald LaVoy. They celebrated 48 years of marriage until his death in 1992.
Martha worked for the GM dealerships of Fedell Chevrolet, Petersburg and Lawrny Pontiac Oldsmobile in Milan, in the parts and service department, retiring in 1989. She was a member of St. Alphonsus’ Church (Light of Christ Catholic Church), where she was active in the Altar Rosary Society. She especially enjoyed time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her family, she also enjoyed playing cards, baking and watching her soaps.
Martha is survived by her children, Dennis (Mary) LaVoy of Arizona, Harold “Snakebite” LaVoy
of Curtice, Ohio and Rita Gust of Blissfield; seven grandchildren, Dennis (Judy) LaVoy, Jr., Michael LaVoy, Deneen (Chad) Austin, Martha (Rocky) Young, Wendy (John) Tomlinson, Jessica (Louis) Ramsey, Scott (Michelle) Gust; 12 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Donald, she was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Robert and Jerry.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Light of Christ Catholic Church, (formerly St. Alphonsus’) in Deerfield, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Jack Loughran officiating. Burial will follow at Light of Christ Catholic Cemetery in Deerfield. Visitation will be held at Wagley Funeral Home, Tagsold Chapel, Blissfield, on Friday from 2 to 8 p.m., with a prayer vigil beginning at 7:30 p.m.
