- Rosemary LaVoy, age 87 years of Temperance, MI, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 17, 2009 in Windhaven Elderly Care, Temperance, MI surrounded by her loving family. Born April 7, 1922 in Toledo, OH, she was the daughter of Andrew and Verna (Pocs) Arvay. A US Navy veteran of WWII Rosemary married Robert “Bob” LaVoy on Nov. 6, 1948. She was a math teacher at Sherman Jr. High School for 21 years, retiring in 1979. Prior she taught at Robinson Jr. High School. Rosemary was a charter member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Temperance, where she served on Church Council, Eucharistic Minister, Co-Chair of the Funeral Luncheon Committee, Envelope Counter Committee, Lector, Representative to Monroe Vicariate, Board of Directors of the Life Center and was instrumental in the creation of the church cemetery. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW #3925, Erie, Lake Erie Waves Unit #128, Bedford Senior Center and R.S.V.P. She was also a volunteer for Mercy Memorial Hospice. Surviving are her loving husband, Robert. Children, John (Terri) LaVoy, Christine (Tim) Wilds, Mick (Bonnie) LaVoy, Frank (Geri) LaVoy and Pete (Sue) LaVoy. Brother, Andy Arvay, 19 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and 1 brother, Frank Arvay. Visitation will be from 2-9 pm Sunday at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Temperance, MI, where she will lie in state after 10:00 am. Fr. Stephen Rooney, officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W., #3925 will hold services Sunday at 6:30 pm followed by the Rosary at 7:00 pm. Memorials may be made to the church or Mercy Memorial Hospice.
