Hi!
The wrapping around the one end of the bow is raw hide. The knotches at the ends for the string are different. It could be wood or it could be bone. It feels very smooth. There are actually two different colors layered on top of each other. Also the tip is a different color of wood. My grandfather was artistic and made and sold pictures that were from different colors of inlaid wood to create a scene. So, the different colors are more than likely wood. The dark wrapping around the center of the bow where he carved his name is leather. The string is gut. The end of the string is braided and the rest is not. The wrapping around the middle of the string looks like it is leather also. I want my son to take some pictures for you. He has a much better camera than I do. He can zoom in much closer to the areas you are interested in. My mother said he had made a bow for my grandmother but she does not know what happened to her bow.
My grandfather loved wood. He encouraged my Aunt Sylvia to learn wood carving. She makes beautiful carvings.
I will send more close up pictures.
Have a good evening.
Gloria

Thanks. Pictures are great! Can you describe to me the wrapping around the bow at one end. Is the that raw hide? The knotches at the ends for the strings are a different color from the bow. Is that a different color wood? At the end where Curtis carved his name, what is the substance near the string? Is it a hole filled in? I see also the string has something black on it near the center.
Sorry to ask these questions. If you don't know, you don't know.

Mr. Tombeau,
Here are some pictures of my grandfather's bow. The one with the entire bow in it isn't very good. I will take some more pictures today to see if I can get a better picture. Are these the angles of the bow that you wanted to see?
Have a good day.
